Off topic but...

Has anyone got a report on trout from the lower saluda, I was thinking about kayak fishing it soon and need some advice.

Heard trout are hot right now. But they are fairly big…lol…can only keep 1 now over 16". Had a buddy fishing for stripes last week with cut herring on the bottom. Caught 7 browns over 18".

Side note stripes still arent in there. I floated in the yak from metts to gardendale with live herring and only caught 5 jacks.

Man I was really hoping the striper where there, but I guess we just have to wait.

I might try a sluggo for the heck of it as a Hail Mary

Thinking about getting a floating something for when the flow is too low for motors. What are you thoughts on kayak vs.one man pontoon?

What you have to think about is launching and more importantly taking out. If you take out at gardendale even a small kayak with one person can give you fits. If I had a 14-16’ alum boat with no more than a 25hp I would be using it no matter what the flow is. I still regret getting rid of mine but couldnt pass up the trade for what I have now.

Whats important about running a boat is learning where to go. The actual “channel” snakes all the way down the river. There is only 1 maybe 2 rapids you cant come up through with a boat and if the flow isnt strong you can drag it up through them.

But if I had to choose between the 2 options you gave I would go with a sit on top yak. I think they are safer when fishing by yourself. Just my .02

I actually sold a 16 foot alum boat with a 30 Hp jet motor on it before I discovered the Saluda. I am still kicking myself in the a#%.

M M you are right about the sit on top, I made the mistake of buying one to slip into, loads of fun but a “B” to fish out of! A small jon boat is the way to go with a small gas motor.
