Seriously, real life is taking its toll… as is figuring out what to use for official measuring device…
My thoughts are: 36" x 4" Wood, with a guide rail at one end (Start of measureing tape) with SCDNR Measuring tape affixed and epoxied in place. Another option, which would be more durable, would be some 4" PVC Pipe, 36" long, cut into thirds lengthwise (Roughly 4" wide, but curved to help stabilize fish), with a cap on the end, and the same SCDNR measuring sticker.
They both could have a lanyard attached to secure, and the PVC could have a float attached to the lanyard.
I took a SCDNR fishruler and cut the ruler part with the limits for trout , red and flounder and stuck it on my yak. Cleaned the area real good with alcohol and it has stayed, everybody could do something like that and just include some kind of trinket handed out at the lagoon in the photo and keep yall from having to make stuff
I have the same 5151, however, since many are coming from out of state, they likely don’t want a SCDNR ruler permanently affixed to their kayak.
If we allowed any ruler, then we have to contemplate the possibility of a “Fish Ruler”, you know where 6" equals 1 foot!
That is why we need a standard across the board. I am loath to have it be a dead fish competition, as I would just as soon release any seatrout, and would like to consider larger or smaller than slot limit sized Redfish into the competition.
I will be working on the particulars this weekend. Hopefully Stinky has a prototype I can look at.
the trinket and the sc sticker seems like a simple way to do the judging. If you don’t use a solvent and just wipe the yak with a clean rage and then apply the sticker, it can later be pulled off, that is if you don’t want to keep the sc ruler on your boat.

I’ll call ya. I’m going out in the am, then got a oyster roast on the beach later on Saturday, then planing on going out early Sunday…that is depending on how much fun I have at the roast:sunglasses:
Mornin’;
…sounds like a good weekend Mud. I’ll be painting my house, …Thanks.
I’m sure we’ll definately need help. Thanks for the offer. We will be making a list I guess, just like last year. I’ve been kinda busy with Honeydoo’s and “da’ Prize”.
Startin’ to run out of time, but i think everything will fall in place. Looks like we have 25 people (GeorgiaKayakFishing has a group coming…sounds like JaxKayakFishing is “snobbin” us…their lose…not ours". Has anyone heard anything about the “Shirt Rumor”?
Shirts… Yep, about $10.00 each for an order of 40… Looking to cut that cost slightly by using a single or only two colors, instead of the three colors quoted. Looks like the cost for the event will be $20.00. May have a +/-$10.00 cost for those who only want a T-shirt…
I fished the Hadrell’s torunament today. Only 17 peole showed up and competed. A Shame too, because it was AWESOME fishing and the prizes were impressive.
I didn't win anything..., finishing out of placing in Redfish division with a 27-3/4 Incher [Thanks Stinkeyfingers!] and the Seatrout division, barely having a legal 14" Seatrout. I Also caught one of the to flounder cauht, but it was only 11" long, and not legal for the contest... Had I stretched that bugger out to 14", I would have won the SLA.... ARGH!!!! :face_with_head_bandage:
What I did do, was drum up some interest in our event with the other participants who are not forums members, and will likely have a few more people participating in BARF 2007.
Hey guys sounds like a fun event coming up. I stumbled on to this forum while looking for some info on fishing from the pier on Hunting Island. I will be camping there the weekend of your event. I am bringing a couple of friends and leaving the wife and kids at home so we can get a lot of time in on the pier.
OK so my question is how do you catch fish from the pier? The first time I ever tried saltwater fishing was this spring at the pier on Hunting Island and did not have much luck. I had a blast but would like to catch more fish this time. Could you guys give me some tips on equipment, bait, times to fish, where else to fish without a boat?
Hope you guys have a blast! We are camping on site 124, maybe we can pick up a couple of those T’s.

I have a better answer, just rent a kayak for Saturday… Contact Ashley or Shelby at Higher Ground in Beaufort, and ask them if they have some yaks for rent for the day… Tell them Troy sent you, and that it will be for the Hunting Island event that I am organizing.
