I know we had one in there right at 21". But look at the zoomed in picture. Get yourself a little piece of string and hold it up to your screen and then hold it next to boards that are next to the same fish… 4 boards… You can’t even argue that one.

Jerms, you look like an inside cat with very little “hammer and nail” experience so you may not know this, but the standard sized decking board is 2x6. People that work with their hands know this as fact. Not as internet speculation.

That cleat in the top of the picture appears to confirm that those are in fact, 2x6 decking boards.

Your scamp doesn’t even stretch over 3 boards. And if you remember from 3rd grade…3 x 6 = 18. So according to that…your Scamp isn’t even 18 inches. So one of three things happened here. Either you guys measured the fish on the Centimeter side of the ruler or you didn’t measure it at all or those are 2x8 decking boards (in which case that fish is still cutting it very close).

It would be very easy for you guys to just prove that those are 2x8 decking boards. A simple photo with a ruler would suffice.

Welcome to the thread, I was wondering what was taking you so long.

I look like an inside cat… interesting, that’s a first. I actually have had a fair share of “hammer and nail” experience and am familiar with common building materials.

While those scamp weren’t anything to brag about, they were all 20" or better. Remember the post where I asked for people to internetly* guess the weight of that cobia? Same deal here. You guessed a little lower than the actual weight, which came from a

I don’t think it works like that. Again, NMFS waters extend 200 miles out, and enforcement is probably a bit difficult, but Internet fishing reports are pretty much admissions of guilt. I have done the same thing recently, I just don’t want to end up paying a $10,000 fine because some Federal agent was having a bad day and saw my sail on the web, you know?

Thanks for the heads up.

Same deal here. You guessed a little lower than the actual weight, which came from a scale. Now you are internetly* guessing the length of a fish as being short, when it was measured on a ruler.

By the way, the insult schtick you constantly use is worn out.

Actually, this is nowhere near the same deal as the Cobia. For the cobia we were pulling guesses out of the air. In this instance you provided us “scale of reference” when you laid the fish across the 2x6 boards.

Please tell me you understand that.

Please tell me that you understand how to take “known variable A” (the size of the boards) and compare them to the length of the fish to find “unkown variable B” (whether the fish is < or > the length of the 3 boards combined). In this case…the photographed PROOF is that the fish is less than the length of 3 boards…which is still less than 18 inches.

Now…if you can prove that each board is > 6" then by all means, I’ll shut up. All it’ll take is a simple photograph.

but you don’t have a known variable, so your equation doesn’t work

I said this 2 pages or so ago. Just tell Greg where the dock is and he can take a "certified ruler" down and measure the planks. That would end this atrocity of a thread anyway, now wouldn't it? If you are right and the fish is 20+ then you have no reason not to tell him. If you are scared the fish was less than size, then you should continue witholding...

Personally I think that the fish is greater than 20 and that the boards are 2x8, but your fans really want to know. I am curious. They are curious. We are all curious… Even you might be a little curious… <insert “bi-curious” joke here>

Unless, someone posts the dock location, then just man up and say greg is right.

I’m 98% sure that those boards are 2x6.

That is “known” to 98% of the population. If you can prove that they are, in fact, larger than 2x6 then you will be the king of the castle. The hot shot of the day. The big kahuna. The cock of the dock.

This is your chance to step out from 23BigGame’s shadow.

Come on Jerms. Run with this. Prove me wrong!!!

“No he diddunt” <finger snap>. That looks like he is calling you out!!!

The fish were legal. 20" is not a very big fish anyways Greg. Why all the hassle. I don’t know how big the boards are, but the fish were measured and legal. Why would we post pictures of illegal fish?

Just curious to know if all the “hammer and nail” experts here are aware that a 2x6 is really 5 1/2 - 5 5/8 inches wide and a 2x8 is really 7 1/2 to 7/5/8 inches wide.

4 pages… I just had to add something.

We want to see photographic evidence of these boards.

That would be you 23 sailfish. You cant interpret a dog ordinance and you certainly can’t follow the rules of the sea. You are a bad influence to all and a hot head with a big head. No one is jealous of you. Your not too good at this internet thing either are you.

Have it Yor Way

It’s not my dock, or my place to go disclosing the location so a bunch of internet hooligans can go tramping around on someone’s property just to satisfy themselves. I really don’t care who thinks what, call it what you will.

I’m on vacation as of right now. You fella’s enjoy the rest of this debate.

Give the guy a break. He had a great day out there and caught probably the biggest sailfish I’ve ever seen!! No Harm was done! When you have a good day like that, you want to show off what you caught. If you caught the same sailfish you wouldahve done the same thing!

Good Job!
