Headed out to do a little bottom fishing in 90 feet of water with the nephews to put some meat in the freezer from the not so great Mahi Season and missing out on the so called ARS season they gave us. First drop youngest nephew hooked up on something good that gave him a run for his money to be welcomed by two ARS. First ARS he ever caught and he got two at once. Every other drop was either a ARS or BSB after trying to run from the so called endangered fish all day. Ended up limiting out on BSBs and had a nice fresh seafood Christmas Eve. Couldn’t find the Grouper as I dont think they even had a chance with the amount of ARS out there. All ARS was successfully released to live another day.
We fished some live bottom numbers out of Beaufort. 30ish miles out. We did stop at the Betsy Ross wreck in the morning to sabiki up some live bait and the fish were stacked up. Kept breaking off sabiki rigs as big sea bass would take a hook or two every now and then. It was a full moon night also and it didn’t ruin the bite. I think you will do just fine at a wreck. The BSBs loved frozen finger mullet.
Not sure how the commercial fisherman filet fish but 2.5 hours to clean all of them was brutal. Might have to watch some of their youtube videos.
