Offshore 4/4

We headed out of City Marina at 4:30am and cruised out to the south. The ocean was calm and we averaged about 40mph out to 150’ water. We dropped the wahoo gear, but didn’t have any takers. After switching over to the full spread, we pushed out to the 226 area in search of the early dolphin. After trolling for a bit, we had our first hits- doubles on dolphin! That’s the way to start the trolling season! We have recently add Marsh Tacky (thanks PHIN!) 21’ riggers and 15’ center rigger to the boat, so having the full spread out was quite a sight along with a dredge, planer rod, and 2 sets of teasers.
It was all fanfare and excitement on board as we welcomed 2 dolphin- a bull (upper 20’s/30 lb) and a cow (15ish) over the rail. Shortly after another cow joined them in the box.
We have a fish fry with friends coming up soon, so we planned to do some bottom work as well. The spinners and lead came out around 1:00 and we quickly limited out on porgies and added some nice vermillion snapper to the box as well.
All in all, it was a great day. The last few miles in were a bit rough, but the beers helped to dull that down a bit.
