Offshore 5/31/10

Read all this about 36’ boats turning around at the rocks, so figured I would throw in my report. Planned to hit the SW Banks in my dingy, but it was a little rough for my fuel capacity, so ended up dragging baits over the live bottom around the Char 60. Picked up one Spanish @ 8lbs., which I was right proud of. Decided to bump some bottom and caught a few AJ and some BSB’s (which were fairly small 10"-13"), so all those went back in to grow. I’ve had better days, but was still just glad to be there. Pulled up at about 1:00 when the gale blew in and headed back. The seas were ugly going and coming back, but made it safe and sound, so nothing to complain about here.

If you cant do 40 kts plus its too rough:face_with_head_bandage:

spanish could have been a juvie king. juvenile kings have yellow spots and look almost identical to a large spanish. gotta check the lateral line. you probably already know this though, just thought id mention it bc i’ve been confused in the past.

Yeah it had the line just above the pec fin running down the side. I thought it was a little king when it was on the hook, but saw the line and was kinda shocked. Biggest spanish I’ve caught…they’re usually about half that size.

Thanks Lynn, even though I couldn’t get out like I wanted and pick up some phins, compared to last time out, I was just glad to get a little action and bring home some meat. Probably try to get out again this Sunday. Hopefully it will be just a little calmer out there.

Maybe in your yatch, but mine only does 40 kts max in flat water.
