Took the boat out yesterday hoping for some wahoo. Fished for the first 90 mins past the Edisto Banks in about 220ft, 'cos there was lots of bait. Nada! Came back in and fished the Banks themselves. Immediately scored on a 22lb kingfish, and a slinger dolphin. Slowed again, but with a number of knockdowns but no hook ups. Then the day got better with a 35lb wahoo! Great color! Then had a number of dolphin hooked but the guys couldn’t get any in??!! Then something took about a third of the line off a Tiagra 30W, with 60lb test, but then the line snapped! Bummer! Then it really slowed so we trolled back into 130ft when we picked up another nice wahoo, at 25 lbs. Cruised the same area for while then decided to head back in. As we were bringing in the lines, one of the flat lines stated to go out slowly. Counted to 10, put the reel in strike, wound in and voila, a sailfish!! Released nice and healthy in about 10 mins, with a couple of good jumps! Reeling in the rest of the lines brought us a gaffer dolphing! Go figure - we troll for seven hours with little to show for it, but then while we are drifting we catch a sailfish and a good dolphin!
All the fish were caught on skirted ballyhoo, using mainly Illander lures. Seemed like green and yellow, and black and red were the favorite colors. Weather was great, could run as fast as I wanted both out and back in.
Good report !

Glad to see somebody had a chance to go get em’.

…when you drift those baits are falling down deep and in the summer that’s where most of the fish are hanging out.
great report and an awesome august outing. Jealous

Nice job buddy
sounds like a slow day turned out to be a great day in the end…good job
What is a “slinger” dolphin?
a “slinger” is slang for a dolphin you can “sling” into the boat. Bigger than a “peanut” but not quite a “gaffer”
-Wishes Charlotte was 3 hours closer to the ocean…-
Thank you Saltwater Addict! A word of caution, Luv2Fush. A lot of “slingers” are lost at the boat, because of pulling the hook. It’s got to be a steady pull out of the water than than one almighty yank.
