We took a great group from Dean Lumber Supply in Walterboro Saturday. I wanted to go to the Edisto Banks, but thunderstorms wouldn’t allow it. We ended up going to the Sowpen on a heading of 150 degrees directly into a head sea at 15 kts. We put lines out at about 7:15 in 140 feet and immediately put a small dolphin in the box that was unlucky to be the first fish of the day.
We ended the day with one dolphin, a blackfin tuna (about 20 lbs.), a wahoo (about 25 lbs.) and a nice sailfish. We missed another wahoo who took the gaff from Nick, one of our customers who wanted to gaff his first fish. He did well on sticking the wahoo but forgot to hold on to the gaff. We also lost two more wahoo to cut offs, pulled the hook on another sailfish and caught four or five barracuda.
Congratulations to Todd on his first billfish and subsequent dip in Big Bay Creek.
