My apologies for this not being a report. I’m coming to folly from the keys for ten days of fishing. I was wondering about the distances. At what distance to people start trolling for dolphin and hoo’s? Also do people prefer fish artificial reefs or ledges for grouper and snapper. Since folly and the keys have so many differences I figured I can use some help. Thanks for any intel.
I am from your neck of the woods and my parents have a place in summerland so I feel your pain on trying to get advice on a forum, the locals around here are usually helpful and I am sure some will reply to your topic. I personally have never been offshore up here, but here is a link to some of the public reefs off of charleston and folly.

head to live bottom areas and troll around keeping an eye on the ff, small ledges and humps are usually the best. I have no numbers that far south to help you any.
.
This time around, it is simple. Head straight out till you hit 120 feet, and troll out.

All in all you might want to not launch and depart from Folly if your boat is to large and you not knowing the area, maybe Wappoo and depart thru the shipping channel which I think may offer more results. Sometimes the inlet is not forgiving, its somewhat shallow in spots and it would really suck to screw up the boat. JUST A THOUGHT !!! You will really like our fishery here, just leave a few for the rest of us!!!
We fished this past weekend and had several shots at dolphin, landing 2 (13 lbs). All inside of 30 miles, 65 ft depth. Not on fire, but there were some there.
Good luck!
