offshore bait..

Let me start by apologizing up front cause this is not a report but a question. we are headed to charleston soon to fish offshore… can some of you give me an idea of the bait situation… how far out for sardines/cigar minnows, etc… and how is the bait on the beaches (pogies)… much of it or scattered or what…

thanks in advance.

plenty of hadens on the beach front. plenty inshore also. threw the net 1 time yesterday and had 200 6" - 8" hadens in the folly river. lots of pods of smaller bait out there.

livin at the beach

My wife and I were out all week on DillyDally around Folly Beach, Wappoo Cut, Morris Island, ICW/Stono… there was bait fish everywhere! Even right out off the beach past the breakers, lots of bait fish easy to catch in a big ol throw net. Look for “flits” on the water or diving birds like Pelicans. Out on the ocean side of Ft Sumter, it was chaos, birds vs menhaden!

Can confirm the above comments. We were out 6/13 and 6/16. Only had to throw the 9 ft net once each trip to more than fill up my live wells.

Menhaden are plentiful inside the jetties…just look for the birds.

we’ve been hitting the blue runners pretty good past the jetties. Lust like Dilly said look for the birds and the fish hitting the top of the water.

Always remember, It could suck worse than this…

great. thanks guys… now just maybe the forecast will cooperate:)
