Offshore - Cancun/Playa Mujeres

Booked a trip with my wife and another couple for late April and my buddy and I were talking about chartering a boat to do a little off shore fishing - from what I’ve seen looks like sails, marlin and mahi are in season at that time - just curious if anyone on here has fished the Cancun area and if so can share some recommendations on who to go with. Thx

I fished there some years back on a Viking, Billfisher. It was owned by Columbia guys, based in Charleston. We got 32 sails one day, and much action the other day too. I think it was probably a little earlier, maybe late February or early March. But Isle Mujeres was interesting, great local food. You’ll have great trip.

Its worth the time to take the ferry to Isla Mujeres from Cancun and grab a charter. If you go and have time the Stump bar downtown Isla is a cool place to grab a beer. A little time on Google and you’ll have all the information you want.

The “swim with the dolphin” experience over there on Isla is pretty cool! I’ve always understood the sails to run through there Dec-March, but I have no clue about April.

Thanks guys…I’ll research…Stump Bar def sounds like my speed.

Check with Anthony at Keen M Charters, he is local and a great guy. You will have just missed the Sailfish run but there will still be some around. The logistics of a charter on Isla may be difficult but there is also a marina on Playa Mujeres that might have something. If you go to Isla be sure to take the Ultramar ferry its the newer faster one. Even if you don’t fish going across to the island makes for a great day rent a golf cart and enjoy the great food and fun bars!
