Just something I have noticed. Why do the dolphins out in the ocean jump out of the air and are much more playful than the ones inshore??The ones offshore jump in front of the bow of the boat and will swim with your boat for a half mile while the ones inshore seem to be pretty lethragic and just come up out the water to breathe and thats about it. Are they two different species?? just wondering
2 “ecotypes”- coastal and offshore, they’re the same species but may be diverging since it seems they don’t associate with each other much.
Bottlenose inshore and Spotted offshore, different species

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”
That’s a question I have always wondered. Have some great pictures of full body out of water dolphins roughly 20-30 miles out, but never once have I saw one jump like that inshore. I always thought it had to do with water depth.
I have seen them jump at Breech Inlet, and cut flips. I hadn’t EVER seen them do that inshore. I’ve seen them offshore do similar stuff when I was on a headboat, but I’ve only seen it once at Breech… and since Breech is basically open water there at the beach, it may have been one of the “offshore” sorts that wound up on the “wrong side of town”.
Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.
I see the Atlantic Bottlenose jumping and being playful sometimes, especially when I think they are breeding and there are a hundred of them in the same area. I think the Spotted ones you see offshore are much less accustomed to boats and the noises/movement of boats so they are curious and follow the boat for a while. They are just a lot more wild and less domesticated. Of course these are just my .02 cents.
