Buddy is moving down to El Paso soon so he wanted to get out on the water again before he left. Saturday the Wx apps said 3-4 at 7 with a bigger than idealNE wind. Newer to offshore but we were in buddies boat, bigger than I am used to so we tried it to see how it felt. We plan to fish US open mackerel tournament in October and wanted to gauge how trolling would go in not ideal wx. Turns out that heavy NE wind is a big game changer. Saw some posts about it being too rough in the offshore section but didn’t heed the advice. I will not make that mistake again. 3-4 @7 was more like 5-7 @5 with bigger ones mixed in at the 60. We slow rolled in 10 mins after arrival and got very wet. Definitely learned a lot and feel a little saltier than before the trip. Cut up some live bait and stopped in the harbor to bump up our stats. Managed a 30” red and some sharks before calling it a day. Had some good laughs out there as we got our butts kicked but slept like a baby the night after.
