Decided to take my 11yo son Zach offshore to target blackfish. Left Remleys @ 8:00AM and was greeted with the most beautiful, serene ocean I have ever experienced. Headed out 135 to 70’ and proceeded to catch tons of 10" to 12" blackfish. Not wanting to keep any under 14" (my rule because I don’t like to clean the 12" or 13" fish), we decided to proceed to the garden in 88’. When we arrived, there was a boat over the garden ledge about 200yds away. Proceeded anyway hoping he didn’t think we were cornholing. Caught over 100 would be keepers but kept mostly 15" + blackfish. I used a 5" pink Shimano butterfly jig with 2 hooks and caught 2 fish on several occasions. Zach used 2" gulp crabs and caught more than his fair share of keepers. Glorious day on the water for Zachs first offshore experience. Came back in to 1.5’ seas and a very light chop making for a quick ride in. Photo is Zach with his 18" blackfish sitting on the cooler. He caught all his fish with light tackle inshore rod/spinning reel with 10lb powerpro. His arms are sore this AM.

ssharda…so great you took your boy fishing!! Im sure he’ll remember it for a long time…a store bought present doesnt hold a candle to times like those!..and you are right…was a beautiful day on the water!!!
I wanted to shoot the chit" with you a lot earlier in the day too haz…glad you finally plugged your radio in…pro tip and glad you didnt go up to the boat with the person in red thinking it was me…lol…I said red marker/bouy…not that that was what I was wearing…lol…was great talking to you guys yesterday and hanging out a bit…should have taken up my offer to go today…invites always there…oh yeah…donnie said you forgot to call him this morning…whatever that means…
Stretch, how’d you guys do? Such a great day to be on the water in Charleston!
Penny, Zach LOVES to fish but is afraid of boats. He had a negative experience with a neighbors dad who took his boat out in bad conditions and the boys got sick. I picked yesterday to take Zach offshore because I knew it was super slick and I knew I could put him on the blackfish. It was a day that BOTH of us will remember for a lifetime. I hope that yesterdays positive experience will make him less fearful of heading out to fish in the boat.

if some of the Radical Christian Bullies of this site would only follow your lead everything will be kosher around here.
Top2bottom1, much thanks for that! It was a little more crowded @ 8AM than I thought and with Zach not even comfortable in the boat, I was forced to trailer and launch by myself. That is, until you assisted. Many thanks and glad to finally put a face to the internet call signs.
