Offshore Gear/Rods

I am looking for opinions/help on purchasing offshore gear. I would like to purchase a nice set of 6-8 combos to get started. I do not want bottom of the barrel, but like everyone else I am looking for a good bang for my buck. I am looking for advice on brands, size and where you found the best deals. I will be trolling for the usual suspects and will do the occasional bottom fishing. I am definitely open to both new and used gear. Thanks in advance for any advice and help!!

Tld 30’s for trolling

Penn us senator for bottom fishing.
Also like the shimano torium for bottom fishing

If you like spinning reels i have had great luck with fi nor 6500 offshores

SAFMC you suck!

TLD 25’s would also work well for trolling and would be one of your most economical choices. We have used TLD 15’s for years bottom fishing and they can handle most of the bottom critters your catch around Charleston. For large grouper (live bait), I use a hot rodded Penn 114H on a bent butt rod. TlD’s are easy to work on and parts are readily available. Ebay is your friend for used deals.

Be careful with used gear especially on the offshore side. If you purchase used gear I would request them be serviced first. I have seen a lot of used tackle come through the shop with a service bill large enough to buy new tackle. Keep that in mind.

30s will tackle most offshore species if you have any idea you might want to pull lures throw a few 50s in your spread.

On the bottom fishing side I sell a ton of the Spinfisher 6500 Jigging Combos for anglers to start off with if I had my pick on Spinning it would be a Saragosa 10000 on the Conventional Side I would have a Trinadad or Torium if you’re searching a for a deal I would lean towards the Torium for price.

Good luck

Thanks Guys, I really appreciate the advice. Simon, I don’t go anywhere else to buy new gear! Ive been coming into your stores since as i was a kid growing up in Mt. Pleasant… when it used to be Mt. Pleasant. Now I go to the store in West Ashley. You will most likely be seeing me more often if we can make this new venture work.

Some people can work on there own tackle and it can work out just fine. Or you can get burned just depends

Servicing your own reels is not that difficult. Lots of info and tutorials out there.
