This past weekend, I was talking to a coworker that lives in the upstate. He is interested in doing an offshore charter and is mainly looking to catch meat fish. He would not rule out a trolling/bottom fishing trip but wants to fill a cooler. Probably looking at sharing his charter with a couple of friends to share the cost. I told him I knew of a few good inshore guys but did not really know any offshore guides so, I’m looking for any recommendations to pass along.

Also, note that the trolling reports have been pretty hit and miss. Seems to be shaping up a sub-par level for dolphin which is 90% of the meatfish catch around here as far as trolling is concerned. If he just wants fish for the freezer, bottom fishing is the way to go. I don’t know if Jabez does straight bottom fishing charters (though he is a top notch bottom fisherman), but if they don’t, Mark Brown on the Teaser is the best around these parts.

Mark Brown. He found some dolphin for us last week. We did a bottom trip with him last year. Great guy.
