We started the season early this year fishing the seamounts 100 miles offshore the pacific coast of Costa Rica. I know this is not a local report, but we are local and this was an amazing fishing trip. We flew to Quepos https://youtu.be/YUoAKApooB0 to fish on a boat out of Quepos.
We tried 3 times to get underway but the generator would not work. 1st Attempt - https://youtu.be/fiogqdKGwDE 2nd Attempt - https://youtu.be/AbbWS0i0I5M 3rd Attempt - https://youtu.be/W43cUFTZDp0
They then transferred us to Los Suenos an hour north of Quepos - https://youtu.be/ob6FSWo9l_4
We started trolling out to the seamounts and caught a pacific sailfish on ballyhoo - https://youtu.be/Fw_qZDAQO6c
My Dad got frustrated with the 1st boat breaking down so much and he stayed behind to fish inshore with my sister and Mom on a panga - https://youtu.be/7UprrznpsFc
Day 2 at the seamounts was incredible. We trolled live tuna for giant marlin. We caught a 550lb blue and a double header blue marlin release estimated both at 150lbs. - https://youtu.be/Xl_pgV3IJZs
A cool fact about Costa Rican fishing is that they did not have a spanish word for “fish on”. They said they know a fish is on by the giant thump you feel through the boat when these enormous marlin hit the bait.
We ate some amazing food while at sea including rice and beans, fresh yellowfin tuna, chicken and steak fajitas. Costa Rica is Pura Vida and we will be back soon.
