Left out of Wappoo Cut around 5:30. Made it to the Southwest Banks by 8:00 and began the troll in about 200 feet. There was a temp break going from warm to cold and we dragged baits across it for about 20 minutes before the first strike. Both flat lines and the downrigger popped out of their clips within 5 seconds of eachother - I thought a triple header was imminent. Unfortunately, nothing stayed hooked up…still wondering what they could have been. Later both flat lines go off at the same time and these are definitely hooked up. After about a 20 minute fight, I realize both of them are Amberjacks (■■■■ it) - we boated both of them - largest around 40". Things were slow after that until we picked up a decent sized bull Mahi. There were a few more short strikes though out the day as well.
I decided to try some bottom fishing over a spot I marked on the way out in about 150’. Picked up a few red porgies and a little tunny before we were met by a small school of Mahi around the boat. We proceeded to pitch some cigar minnows and began slinging them in. Picked up 11 of them before they disappeared. All ranged from around 20"-30". By this time it was getting late and we could see some gray clouds so I decided to head in. We were able to make about 30-35 all the way to the rocks.
Totals for the day:
12 Mahi
2 Reef Donkeys
1 Little Tunny
3 Red Porgies
Assorted Trash Fish
Not the greatest day but we all had a lot of fun and made it home safe with some decent meat. I’ve never come across a school of dolphin like that so that was the highlight of the trip. Hope to do it again soon if the weather doesn’t act up…Ana and Bill look ready to try to cause some trouble.

Nice catch; I have the same boat, mine is an 01’ with a 200 yam ox66. Glad to see you using it offshore; just recently purchased mine and trying to get all my ducks in a row.

Mine’s an '02 with a Mercury 200. It’s a decent boat for offshore…you just have to pick your days of course. Be sure you have TowBoat US or Sea Tow if you plan on going offshore…
thats a really nice haul this late in the season. Congrats… we hose it off after each catch, even after a firedrill and multi knock down…
great day on the water…Congrats again
Yeah it was hosed down right after the pictures were taken. That was right after the school of dolphin were brought in the boat. Those little ones like to flop around and cause a mess.
