Just bought a Diawa BG 8000 and looking for advice on a good rod to pair it with. Going to be using it for most everything from bottom fishing, to pitching baits, even some trolling possibly. Any advice would be good.

Alan Hawk did a review on the new BG 8000 reel. You should check it out. I know Folly Fisher uses them for surf fishing for blacktips and has said he likes them and they have held up so far. I bought the 4500 for reds in the surf early this year to check out. Thus far no issues on my end. Good to see some of the local shops carrying these. Supposed to be good reels for the money. Time will only tell if the 100.00 reel has what it takes to last, but from everything I’ve read they have very good reviews thus far.
Yeah that review is why I bought 1. Wanted a big reel but didn’t have the $ to get a Shimano right now. Hopefully it’s as good as everyone says. Thanks for the help.

Star aerial jigging rod xxh…great warranty, $100…66m or 66mh trevalla if you want to use it for casting and bottom fishing…just my $.02. (And, I’ve been unable to kill a Shimano Spheros in my lifetime.)
I’ve used all the rods mentioned and almost every module of tiger lite andwould go with the tallus. I would put the star and tiger lite in the same boat. Those are excellent reels. Just a notch back from the saltist. Probably about the best reel you can get for the price and maybe the best under 200. Unmatched capacity.
Thanks for all the info. I would have liked to buy a Spheros or Saltist but wasn’t in the budget right now. This is the only non-Shimano I own except a Senator.

Tiger light jigging Rod. I have an old BG that I just can’t kill! Or use it as a guest rod‘s, it is currently on a 5‘8“ travaila. When you can afford it get the Spheros… you can bullet proof that real by adding heavier drag washers, and a handle from a Saragosa. It is a fantastic reel for bottom fishing .
