Had to drive North for some field trials last week, ans I popped over to Ohio for some Lake Erie Tributary steelhead. This big male caught on a Black nose Dace - Old School. As good a fight on a fly rod as any fish I’ve ever hooked.

Good looking Fish…does the water look a bit muddy know a lot of places up north had so much snow this winter will still be a few weeks before the fishing get really good.
What is chiefly needed is skill rather than machinery.

It takes an inflow of water (rain/snow melt) to get the steelhead into the river, then you have to look at the USGS gauges to tell when the water has dropped back to fishable levels. This river fishes best about 4-5 days after a big rain. We hit it about perfect - Thurs afternoon after a big weekend rain/snow.
It sounds pretty complicated, but my brother and I were first-timers, and we figured it out to the tune of about a dozen nice fish.
