Can my oil/temp horn be bad and sound off for no reason? Last trip out on the way back in the horn went off, but only throttled up not at low speed. Temp gauge read ok so it wasnt the temp. Is it more likely the VRO is messing up and not the horn? How do i check to see. Any help would be appreciated.
if the alarm is sounding at higher rpms, its probably the VRO not providing enough fuel pressure at higher rpms
ive noticed that the front of the carbs all have excess oil/fuel mixture in them dripping into the breather, could they be linked. Ive run most of the test that the selco book tells me to. Ive also noticed that for a while it has smelt like excess buring fuel out the exaust when i run the boat at higher rpms.

yes,ran it on a portable to see if the no oil horn was operating properly and it was. I also checked the primer solenoid because it fit the problem with the excess fuel/oil in the carbs and overloaded smell of gas when i ran it, but doesnt explain the horn. But it seems to be working fine. I also had problems with the choke all of the sudden. I cant choke the motor on a cold start now it floods it and have to pull the plugs clean them all out and try it again. Which to me also points to primer solenoid being stuck or something. But not according to the test i ran on it. thanks for the advice.

could a bad fuel pump cause excess oil/fuel mix in the front of the carbs?

Mine was ultimately the vro. Replaced with an old style fuel pump and I’m running pretty spiffy - so far. Of course you’ll need to mix oil into the gas at 50-1.

It’s not that horrible. They sell these little bottles with a gauge on the side. All you do is pour the amount of oil per the gallons of gas.

OIL to GAS MIXING CONTAINER
Oil mixture container allows the addition of the exact amount of oil required for a 2 cycle engine. Oil level marks are in gallons and liters. Determines ratios for 100:1, 50:1, 24:1 and 10:1 mixes. This wide mouth quart size bottle can prevent fouled plugs or seized engines resulting from improper oil mixing
The bottles cost less than $5.00-$4.00. Before I gas up, I decide the amount of gallons of gas I’m going to put in, say 20 gallons, then I put in 2 bottles of oil before I leave the house and I’m done. It’s just a little extra planning. Getting the initial ratio correct with gas in the boat is going to be the difficult part.

I felt the same way. I miss the vro. But I missed fishing more.

in my selco book for the motor it doesnt have anything on checking it. i suspected it earlier in the process not knowing what exactly it was but didnt know how to see if it was working properly. is there a way to check it? i appreciate the help this thing has been driving me crazy.
