I was replacing the the water pump on my 25 Merc. 2stroke and noticed oil running down the drive shaft. #@$%#%!!
Am I right in assuming it a bad oil pump seal? I imagine the powerhead would have to be removed. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

I’d have to disagree Chris V Some mercs do have oil injection pumps.I just removed both of my oil injection pumps, tanks, lines, etc. When I bought my boat There was oil slowly leaking down the outer exhaust housing. I thought it was just spilled oil trapped inside the cowling. Later after taking the cowling off and degreasing everything I figured out that it had been a split hose in the bleed system behind the electronics plate and was sucking air and letting oil out in small drips. The more Rpm the faster the drip. Ive since bought a oil injection block off kit and done away with that pump and premix my gas now. Get this Merc doesnt make a oil pump block off plate for the merc 70-135 hp range. Only 150hp-up, So I looked and looked and finally I found a yamaha waverunner oil injection block off kit fit the mounting holes and oilpump hole perfectly. Had to use the o-ring off the oil pump but it worked perfect $10 at velocity powersports. If you have oil running down your driveshaft you should be more worried about a lower main crankshaft seal. Not to hard a fix, but you are going to have to pull the powerhead for that.

Do you premix oil in the gas tank on this 25? Where would you need a oil pump?
