Haven’t been posting lately but had a trip yesterday I had to share. About 2 weeks ago I was checking out some new low tide kayak/wade spots. Late in the day followed a creek way up and ended up wading to an oval shaped pool about 75’ long and 40’ wide. Gettin dark and dropped a clouser in the middle and the pool erupted. Pulled out 2 hog head reds before dark and had to beat it home. Friday the weather/lowtide was right so I hit the creek at 9 a.m. Poled the kayak about 1/4 mile up the creek when I saw this pig rooting around an oyster bar with 2 friends. First cast…10’short second cast 5’short 3rd cast backing knot through 2 guides money shot. My kayak is longer than this creek is wide and it still took me 15 minutes to tail this fish.
Picked up one more in the creek on the dropping tide as the school fell back to the pool. Had to slog through the mud for the last 200 yards (too shallow for kayak) using my stripping basket as a walker. Got to the pool, my god there are about 30-40 fish circling the pool all of them are that same size. Had to stand on an oyster mound to cast then wade into the pluff to land/release fish. Broke hooks, tippets and leaders to pull 5 more through the mud. By the end I was covered head to toe in mud. Waders 1/2 full reel encased (gotta love sealed drag). I can still smell the mud on my hands after 3 showers. I am going to leave them alone for another 2 weeks (that will kill me) before I harass them again. I knoted a leader to measure the length of the pictured fish back at the truck tape read 35".
