I’ve become a bit obsessed. This pic was taken just below the fuel dock past Bushy. I feel pretty good about my Garmin, so I don’t think it is some non-sense on the screen, but I’ll be danged if I can catch them.
If you was to guess, what are these fish stacked up so teasingly? I want them.
Not being terribly experienced, I’d say they are trout, like Cracker Larry said. I’d be tempted to rig a float rig with a line stopper set to around 19 feet (just at, or over, their heads) with live bait.
I’ll hit a pile of them and then they’ll disappear. Then a pile more. This is about 1/3 of away from shore. I always say I’ll dedicate a day to going after them but then I don’t.
They are definitely Gold Fish crackers! You need to open up that unit and dump them out, or you will smear the inside of the screen with crumbs, if they break up!I had trouble with beer can symbols, getting inside mine:smiley: You think Gold Fish Cracker’s are hard to catch[:0] The beer can’s in mine had names, like, Bud and Sam! There were even some fruity ones, that were named things like, Miller Lite and Michelob Ultra Light! You could’n tell what Michelob was:smiley:
When I have run across the same readings in creeks during the winter, I break out the 8 ft. cast net (deep shrimp net) and give it a few throws because I, too am extremely curious when I find this. About half the time I get nothing. A few times I have gotten some trout, but LOTS of times I’ve pulled up net fulls of large 10"+ mullet. They, along with other species, love deep structure and bends in creeks when it’s cold.
Drift back and throw a jig and a DOA Cal Paddle tail up current. I’d use a 3/8th oz jig at that depth and try to get contact with the bottom. Then work different depths until I was satisfied that the machine was screwing with me and then take off…
+2 on stickmans advice. Turn off the goldfish function - you will get a better picture of what you are looking at. Be it bait, fish, bubbles, turblence…
Once the function is turned off, you will never look back.
Thanks for the advice and it will be used. Some day (when the air is warm and the beer cold) I intend to burn a day just putzing with the spots. I have mullet in the freezer to chunk at them, along with some skrimp. Just need that warm day.
Thanks for the advice, stickman. Will do and see what I get. I’d like to believe the screen is accurate from a few things I’ve seen (fish on ledges, holes, etc.). I look forward to a different view.
Fish are funny and the Whats and Whys are what make it all the more fascinating.
