Okiaya Bent Butt Rod quality?

Does anyone know if these are OK?

Seems like this comes up from time to time, and there is a guy who kind of pushes them but not much info otherwise. I searched the forum a couple of years ago looking for info on these rods and found a few threads but that is the gist. Hopefully i am not confusing these with something else.

Had a customer come through with a rod with the same guides as that one, they were saltwater seized and we weren’t able to match the guides. Any trolling rod with rollers and a bent butt under $200 probably doesn’t have the best of components. The same Star Handcrafted rod is $499.99. Check out the new Penn Bent Butts for $249.99 I don’t have much ■■■■■■■■ on them as they just came out this year.

Thanks for the info. I’ll look in to the Penn rods

Pac Bay SR series guides

Those rods should get the job done, for the most part.

There are plenty of good bent but rods for under $200. PJs whole sale, Diawa even sells a deep drop rod for about $179. And this rod having pack Bay guides so I assume it would be fine. I have got plenty of big fish on $135 bent butt rods from P J’s wholesale

Thanks Sells. I ordered 2 rods from PJ’s

I will have to try PJs Wholesale.

Pinnacle Marine makes killer bent butt rods for under $200. I’ve landed many fish on them without a problem, and they look sharp as well!

Ordered 2 PJ Bent Butts, 80-100# a few weeks ago, put some sale Okuma 50’s on them, and spooled with 100# braid…haven’t hooked up yet, but the braid seems to track fine down the rollers, even when high-speedin and bouncing around. Little skeptical when I saw they were being shipped 3 day USPS from Puerto Rico, but they arrived undamaged and on time. The wraps, aluminum, guides, all seem to be good quality and for 139$ you can’t beat the price! Pics of the hog they will catch to follow…

I’m going with mono. The lack of stretch in braid isn’t happening for me.

That’s what 100-150’ of heavier mono is for.

As for Pinnacle…I have 3 of his newer bent buts with the Alps rollers (I think) and they are best bang for the money. Sealed bearings and milled aluminum frames.
