Okuma has a new trolling reel? Thoughts?

I know okuma has been raked over the coals on this site as well as many others. I have some Titus Golds, Penn Internationals, and Avets. The Okumas are NOT penns or Avets but I will say that their customer service was great when I blew up my drags and I have not had a problem since. Seems like they are trying hard but just missed it. Well now they have a new line the “Makaira”. I will not buy one over the Penn or Avet unless the price point is much cheaper like it is with the TGs. If it is I may give a 50 a try as a plainer reel. 85 pounds of drag is pretty strong. Thoughts?

Behind this helm stands a sickness that not even a women can cure.

Take a look at the testing video, the 26 second mark the guy fighting a fish at the rail is using a blue reel. Could that be a different reel?

I’d be willing to give one a test drive. I’ve never really had any problems with my Okuma stuff, granted I don’t get to fish near as much as some of you do or as I want to. When are they going to give list prices on them?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

If Tiburon is involved, it won’t be a POS that’s for sure, but it won’t be cheap…

Tiburon simply “made” the bearing.

They are sure to be upgrades over the Titus reels. The drag design is very similar to Avet. Who knows about quality. I agree with scootin about price point versus Avet and Shimano. I would rather have a new TLD A series over a new Penn International, but that’s just my opinion.

I purchased two okuma spinning reels probably 3-4 years. Both worked well for a while then they both went to chit. One reel the drag is slipping very bad and the other real sounds awful. These reels were in the $75 range when I bought brand new. I have had other products last alot longer.

I would never own anything Okuma after watching one blow up when a wahoo hit. It was comical. This was years ago, but it left its mark.
