Old 17 bridge

Anyone out there fish the old hwy 17 bridge behind the Baymont? Ive fished there a few times and have only caught small eels. I once caught a small keeper redfish. I mostly target and catch blue crabs but i always take a few rods out hoping for some luck. Im mainly curious to see what species of fish if any do people catch out there.

Also was wondering if what that specific location is called.

Are you talking about the split bridge/pier? if so, yes, i have fished there a few times. caught lots of croaker, but that’s it. seen some enormous fish jump out of the water from time-to-time, but can’t get to them unless you have a boat. don’t drop too far because there is a lot of debris that will cut your line or get you hung up. beware of the gators…i was there a couple of months ago and there were 3 under the bridge at high tide waiting for a snack.

Thats the place! Yea, ive seen the alligators there and if i get hung up i can usually knock it loose. Main interest was just wondering what people normally catch there. Ive seen a lot of gar there but really only know of people redfishing along the edge or crabbing. I was wondering what i can catch out there close to the middle where the water is deepest?

I have seen a few people catch small reds, crabs and catfish on the south side of the pier. I don’t go there anymore due to losing rigs.

Never talked to anybody that did…see lots of people there but never catching…

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!

The fish you saw jumping are probably sturgeon. They hang out around the US 17 bridges.

Redfish along the grass, small catfish out further. Eels toward evening and at night.
Evidently there’s no slot size limit on the Reds caught there [:0].
