Was riding around a bit the other day, and rode by the old Atkins Landing. Everything’s been cleared out, and the entire area is fenced off.
Does anyone know what’s to become of the property? Is Santee Cooper putting a park there, or leasing/selling the land?
Good Question!!! A substantial public landing with breakwater would be very valuable to the tourism as access is getting limited on the Moncks Corner side of the Lake. However, I believe that Santee Cooper may have other plans for the property. Joey Edens at Angles Sporting Goods has been trying to garner some support for a Large public landing.
That would be a great spot for a nice park/landing.
Along with a breakwater, I’d like to see them dredge out a deeper channel at least along that one side, and where the ramps would be to give good access during low water periods. And they could mark the stumpfield out front with hazard buoys to possibly keep unsuspecting people from tearing their boats up.
