Old bay mixed in with your bait balls.

Is it true that if you do this the shrimp get a “headstart” on flavoring?

Nahhhhhh…capt fritz is right…and if you rub a little cocktail sauce on the outside of the bait balls it makes it even that much better ;). I also smear a little cocktail sauce on the inside of my cooler.

I tried some Old Bay on my balls…I was nonplussed.

the cocktail sauce has to have at least 30% horse radish to get the flavor in them properly. Just to ensure you don’t spook the shrimps with your sweat dripping over the side of the boat you should drink a cup of menhaden oil for several days prior to opening day.
