Old Coal Depot question

Is there anywhere to access this for a yak? Hopefully within a mile or so. I see boats there, but never more than 1 or 2 at a time. I’m thinking a good place for some winter flounder.

Good question Gator. I fish it in the motorboat but would also like to find a decent place to access it with the yak. Been told you can walk to it behind the old foundry… (spruil ave),but a long dangerous walk to the tressel.
I caught 1 14" flounder and missed 2 Monday around Bushy park area.

If you find a launch, let me know.

are you talking about the coal trestle in the cooper? the famous sheepshead place?
if thats where your talking about seabreeze marina is not far at all. its the marina that is under the cooper river bridge on the peninsula side

That would be a heckuva paddle on a falling tide. Drive all the way back on Greenleaf St. (it's off of Morrison, just up past Charleston Rigging and the old Pepsi distributor). Anyway, go all the way back there and there's the abandoned Palmetto Lime plant. You could probably slip your kayak in alongside Allied Terminals dock back there. Right when you make the last left turn toward the dock, there is a path off through woods. Go back there and you can climb onto the tressel. Very dangerous though. A few people have fallen through.

PS - you did not hear this from.

What about the Marina at shipyard creek? There may not be a boat launch BUT we are special we don’t need all that. Then it is only a 10 minute paddle. This marina is run by CCPR. Maybe this will help.

Directions to the marina @ Shipyard Creek please. A 10 minute paddle isnt that bad. Also, how far is it to launch from where you park? With the boat weighing 70+ w/o all the crap that I bring, i cant walk that far w/o a few trips.

what is CCPR?

JUNEAU AVE AND TIDEWATER RD (old navy base)
Google one of these streets. Click on the satelite view. You will see the marina. The old coal pier/dock is just south of there. Also, it may be a little further then 10. But not to much.

CCPR= chas county park rec

I believe you are talking about Cooper River Marina

So Remley’s Point is too far??</font id=“blue”>

Nothing is abandoned down there. Between the cameras and homeland security this is not a good option.

GatorZ,
You can get in ther by accessing the old Navy base. Take Bainbridge ave towards FLETC when approaching the gates, stay all the way to the right. follow the road towards the cooper river marina ( it will be outside of the complex) halfway down before the marina you will see an old seaplane ramp, you can launch a yak ther. (I do quite often) Once in head towards the marina. I recommend hitting the seawall before it first, caught lots of trout and reds. Good Luck! Any questions email me.
