Old Hulls

Does anybody know of any yards with old boat hulls, prefer 16-19ft, maybe old shallow CC’s or bass boats. Looking to find a boat to redo from the ground up, thanks.

Man, your looking for lot’s of work! As for old boat hulls in the range your looking for hit up some of our scrap yards and check out Craigslist.

Cant remember the name but there is one off of I 85 between Greenville and Anderson that is going out of business and have some deals!

I like eyeball’n this place from time to time. Look in the “project boat” section. They have all you could ever want. But like fred67 said, its a lot of work. I did see they have a flats boat hull for cheap.

Does anybody think you could turn an old 16-18ft bass boat into a flats boat? if you started from the hull only. I kind want a year project to make a bass/flats type boat.

You can turn a sows ear into a silk purse if you throw enough time and money at it. Better to start with a flats boat hull if that’s what you want. Or build one from scratch. It won’t cost a dime more and will perform better.

The reason why I was asking because I have seen a far more amount of old bass boat hulls out there than flats boats, or even shallow center consoles for that matter. I have seen the lanier marine site which has some interesting stuff, but have not found anywhere else that wouldn’t be a long drive.

check out in georgetown on 17 before u get into town on the left… danni always has stuff in the fence… its across from carol cambell right on 17 before you go overbridge towards steel mill on right side

Also check out ABC Motors in Hardeeville. They have a lot of salvage boats and parts.

You can probably build a new boat yourself for around the same $$$ that you’ll put into totally refitting a junker.

Don’t know where to find a hull, but I gutted my old 1980 Skandia with a chainsaw. Everything was rotten. I was gonna do the DIY rebuild thing, but quickly realized I was in over my head! I hired it out and had everything replaced with lightweight, but super strong foam cored laminations - stringers, floor, and transom. I have sample sections that are super strong. The whole floor weighed maybe 150#. 2 men could easily pick it up. I had pour-in foam installed below the floor. It still looks like an old boat, but with no wood, it will last forever. I got to “customize” it like I wanted it = no “systems” under the floor. It cost me some $$, but the job was done by experts and was much faster than DIY. This was several years ago, and it is holding up great.

ive always wanted to split an old tri-hull, glass in a deck, and make a redneck flats boat out of it. But its the whole time and money ordeal that stops me every time.

I don’t think that hull will go too skinny

That would be Jim Forrester. If you go there, tell him I sent you and he will likely tell you that I either owe him some of my millions or that I need to loan him some money. Jim is a good guy.

The more we just complain…the more things stay the same.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to go with a stitch and glue boat. Going to try to build one from scratch.

Now you’re talking :sunglasses:
