i have a friend with a 79 Merc 140 that needs a water pump. The lower unit wont come off? All the obvious stuff unhooked . I have done this on a newer Merc V6 and plenty of Johnsons. What gives ? Put wood wedges in it an only a quarter inch seperation. Is the drive shaft stuck or am I missing something?

What would that do?
I have heard the drive shaft will seize if not geased last time it was change… and you ae screwed.
