Was digging around, and found some of my grandfathers stuff, I still remember our days of watching the Miami Dolphins playing football in the “Orange Bowl”, and surf fishing trips on “Haulover Beach” and Pier fishing at “Haulover Pier” in the S. Fl. Area.
Just wanted to share a few pics of old stuff.
Guess the MFG of the reel in front of the coffee can.
Looks like one, or two, may be “Squidders” from the '40s-'50s? Amber handles are from that era. I use a pair of '50s Penn surf reels every
Fall fishing for bull Reds. They still work just fine.
Sure recognize the lead jigs; we used to put a strip of pork rind on the hook and cast or deep troll for stripers with them.
The reel on top is a Shakespear, need to clean it up and get the numbers.
The Penn’s are an old Squidder, and if I remember a surfmaster, and i forgot the 3rd. They are still in Daytona with my dad, and they all work also. Even still have the old fashioned cloth line on em.

i thought i could barely see the Shakespeare logo on that reel!

dacron? my old man took me out as a kid using heavy dacron as crab line on stakes w/ chicken necks. my buddy’s got a couple old penns still spooled with it on his granddad’s rods too
Good stuff, my Dad swore by the Penn 209’s; caught sharks over 100 lbs. with no problem. We could have kept fishing with 209’s, Mitchell 300’s, abu Garcia’s forever; but we think fast retrieval, more lin capacity, pretty shiny finishes are more important these days…
It is a Shakespeare mod 26 just cleaned it up a bit.
It even still works.

I’ve got a couple of old 209’s in the garage along with a 262 and an Ocean City. The Ocean City was my Mom’s and haid braided dacron on it up until a couple of years ago when I clean it up and respooled it.
