Old structures on Coburg Creek?

I’m interested in learning more about WWII Era uses of Coburg Creek aka Wappoo Creek, and would like to know what these are/were:

And to keep it on topic of general fishing discussion per forum rules, they don’t hold fish.

Thanks!

Sub cables is the way I learned it

Dr. James Southard Jr told me his research showed the platforms were used to enable cranes to lift barges so they could clean the bottoms. This was way,way back. Further down the creek there are old pilings from the submarine nets.

The post up river are where they had nets for blocking submarines from harbor access and the cement structures are associated with that.

My understanding is that these are what most of us refer to as the submarine nets:

However, I also understand that the true submarine nets were cast across the harbor and Elliott’s Cut, whereas the above were more of a gate to protect the areas where military boats and equipment were housed.

By the way, there are 6 pairs of pilings - I should say there were six pairs of pilings, one of the pilings on the East side of the creek finally collapsed last month.

Thanks for the input so far and I look forward to hearing more!

Crazy to think a sub could fit through that. That’s some pretty tight water to navigate.

Not a sub, a German U boat. Tiny sub.
