ollll cheby

I am thinking about towing my dad + grandad’s 67 c10 to charleston from south MS.

It has an i6 that burns a bit of oil and three on the tree. Body is excellent, paint has a few rust bubbles but has been kept covered and doesnt look too bad.

Rather than rebuild the 6, I am thinking I want to put in a 350

I am not an expert car guy, but I know some of you guys are tinkerers. Am I biting off more than I can chew?

I am old school, I would rebuild the 6 if you could. My brother’s father-in-law has a 1950 Dodge pickup that his father bought new. They thought about dropping a v-8 in it about 10 years ago but stuck with the original 6 cyl. Looks cool and is pretty stingy on gas.

I say go for it! As far as getting it anyway. I recently got a 66 Ford F100. I’m a newb but am having fun learning

Correction, the one I want to restore is a 71. There is a 67 long bed in the back as well with a v8 283, but supposedly it is rusted to death.

Definitely something to be said for keeping it old school -

here is a photo - pardon the mess, its 92 years worth of collecting other stuff in that hangar!

Body looks awesome! Take your time and figure what you want to do with it. Personally I would keep it stock and original. No doubt a v8 would sound and run 100% better and have much more pep, but do you really need the temptation? Dang did I just say that, boy am I getting old. As for gas mileage, the I6 (guessing a 250) would be close to a good running 350 or worse.

What would be nice, get rid of the manual, add a 350 with a 700R4, ditch the drum brakes, add a/c, ditch the camper shell,… so much that could be done… nothing but money.

I have a car hauler 16’ iffn you need it Matt…

WOW, That looks almost identical to a pick-up my dad had when I was little!! From what little experience I have, leaving it stock keeps the value up. A truch this old doesn’t have a ton of value yet, but I stress the “yet” part!! Being a stepside makes it even more valuable!! I agree with Fred, take your time, think about what you want to do and then do it right!!!

Is your wife gonna let you keep that in the driveway? Keep the straight 6. If we keep collecting toys we may have to construct that shed between the houses. HOA be (**()ed !

Itll go in the garage once we finish all these tables and stuff. I am thinking about putting it on dollies and pushing it around the corner back there - might be able to get both trucks in there…

Only you can decide if you’re biting off more than you can chew. I agree with the others; bring it here no matter what.

71 C10 step is a great body style. 67 would be a bit cooler, but hat is a nice looking truck. All you have to apply is time and money… anything is possible

My granddad had one of those trucks when I had to go to work in Hemingway during the summers.

Here is the 67 (long bed) in the yard. Body is not in as good shape- lots of rust underneath, around all windows, rocker panels etc.

Considering taking the 283 out of it and the front clip w/ radiator, and rear end. Will need at least the rear end since the 71 is not limited slip diff.

I would personally put a 350 in it with a 700r4 transmission. You can’t beat the power of a 350 and the price of all of the parts to build it (plus it sounds awesome with a set of flowmasters). Put disc brakes on it and upgrade the suspension and it would be a cool pickup.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

If you want more muscle and parts availability then go for the 350. But American inline engines are seriously tough, and much easier to work on. I had a 225 in my Dodge and that little mule would pull a brick ****house in a headwind uphill. Lots of torque over the HP, but maybe that was because of the one barrel carb.

Very nice looking trucks btw.

The body parts are available for both of those trucks thru LMC tucks. If you have the time and money you could have 2 very nice old trucks.

Double D.

I would rebuild the I6 wash and wax the truck and drive it. You will find many things as you enjoy driving it that will need repair/updated. The last thing you want to do is tear down a perfectly good truck and not be able to enjoy it.

Take it from me, the timeline you create to rebuild it to your dream status will take much longer than you expect. Drive it now and enjoy it.
