On the rocks

Anything going on off the rocks at the dam? I’d like to go fish for a couple of hours in the morning before I have to get ready for work. But I don’t feel like getting the boat for that short of a time. I even thought about throwing the bait tank in the back of the truck & grab a few herring.

I talked to a guy fishing there at lunch about a week ago. He just started when I was there. He was catching herring off the rocks with a sabiki rig and throwing them right out. He said he and a buddy got 16 keepers the morning before. I threw a topwater for 30 minutes without a hit

Heard that people on the fishing pier are jigging their own herring and catching stripes. Heard a report of 15 keepers in a day of fishing from the pier.

We caught them on the rocks from the Lex side to the Irmo side. Most of the action was on Lex side about 100-200 yards out. Also caught some on the shoal out in front of the pier and sailing club…

Even had a couple on magic swimmers…

Edit:…well I guess we all know where my report came from…lol…

I’m not sure. Could you be a little more specific??

can you actually get on the rocks and move down the dam away from the landing, or is that frowned upon by the authorities?

I see people doing it all the time so I don’t think it would be a problem. I’ve never noticed any signs.

If your afraid of snakes you might want to keep a close eye out for where you step saw about a six foot water snake curled up in the rocks right at the landing dock 2 Sundays ago. Chip about how deep where you fishing your boards and floats Sunday and Nice fish you posted on Facebook from Sat. on Hartwell.

20’-130’ and everything in between. Real humpy over on the Lex side.

I made 1 pass along the rocks on Saturday evening and had 2 along with 2 stripped baits off the hook
