On the Wando 10/18 Trout Bonanza

Fished from Paradise Island Landing with a few friends today. Caught the very tail end of the outgoing tide. Caught a few small trout and a 15" Flounder at low tide. As soon as the tide started coming in again, the trout turned on steady. We caught somewhere between 20 and 30 fish in about 2 hrs. Most were in the 15" range, with a few smaller fish also. My buddy caught Troutzilla II, 22" big boy. We let him go to go off and grow bigger. Most of my fish were caught on old faithful (rootbeer/Chart. DOA grub), and most of my buddy’s were on a DOA shrimp-popping cork rig. I managed a few on a popping cork with a gulp shrimp, but they seemed to like the DOA shrimp better, so I went back to the grub. Caught some live shrimp as well as the trout were nailing them!! Managed to shred my net on something wooden, so that ended the live stuff.

The bite went pretty cold as soon as the water got to the grass. Next time I will try to get there earlier and fish more of the low and outgoing tide. The guy up river from us on the same bank was killing the reds on carolina rigged fingers, wish I had some (See net problem above)!!

Beautiful day on the water, a red would have been nice, but a few trout and a flounder were mighty tasty tonight.

The Camera phone didn’t do the fish justice, but here is my buddy with a 21.5-22" Trout. This one hit in deeper water on a DOA popping shrimp.

Willy, no secret on the grub. I get mine from Barton and Burwell, but I see them at most other places also. It is just a DOA paddle tail grub with a rootbeer body and a chartruese tail. I prefer a black head, but have had decent luck on a chartruese as well. White seems to be the least productive head color for me. This color has worked well both here in SC and at home in FL for reds, trout, flounder, and jack in Florida. I’ll try other colors, but always go back to that one.
