On the way to chas 60 9/30/12

Finally got to make the trip but we were planning to just stay inshore because yesterdays weather was so spotty. We got in the water a little after 8 and saw that it was glassy and calm with almost no wind. I wanted to troll around the jetties and nearshore reef before the weather got bad so we went out and water was perfect right outside the jetties I hooked a ballyhoo onto the rod and started letting line out and we were sitting at idle speed. I may have let about 20 yrds of line out when a huge king mackerel probably over 3ft jumps in the air taking the bait before i could lock the reel it birdnested and popped the line. Despite all my yelling, The gf didnt even turn around to see what happened idk what was wrong with that girl lol, but we continued trolling out to nearshore reef and didnt get a bite. I checked the weather and the forecast changed so we went a little further out towards the 60 but stayed between the shipping buoys after a little ways we stopped for a sec to reel in the trolling rods and I dropped a line picked up a black sea bass so we drifted and put more lines out caught some more bass and 3 Trout all in 50ft of water. Then checked the weather again and decided to go out to chas 60 rode out there at 30 mph and fished there but everything I tried to anchor over I couldnt get close and I tried everything I could but always ended up about 80ft away according to the GPS. We ended up catching 2 Red Drum out there 24 and 26 and it was her first big fish. The Spanish and Kings were bustin bait everywhere we looked jumping all over, we also had a boat trolling around us for about an hour and he caught a nice cobia?? it was a little far to tell. Needless to say we caught dinner and thats all counts but didnt get any reef fish. Thanks to all for the info. Im sure ill be taking another trip soon with reports to follow
