…81 years ago today

On June 6, 1944, D-Day saw Allied forces, primarily from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, launch a massive invasion of Nazi-occupied France, specifically in Normandy. This operation, codenamed Operation Overlord, marked the start of the liberation of northwestern Europe and is considered the largest amphibious invasion in history.
Key Aspects of D-Day:
The Normandy Landings: Allied troops landed on five beaches along the coast of Normandy: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
Operation Overlord: This was the overall name for the Allied invasion plan to liberate Europe.
Operation Neptune: This was the specific landing operation on D-Day.
Military Significance: D-Day is considered a turning point in World War II, as it marked the beginning of the end of the war in Europe.

Thanks for posting this EF
Brings back a lot of great memories
Every Friday after lunch
We would knock off and the WWII veterans would tell their stories
Then we would make a few drinks and the guys from Nam would tell theirs

They are all gone now, my kin and the ones I knew with the stories. I still know and keep up with just one guy who fought in Korean, but he had a sweet attache job, then finished his career at the bomb plant, so he didn’t have grunt stuff to tell

Almost all my heros are gone…just dammm

The Battle of Midway Ends

On June 7, 1942, the Battle of Midway—one of the most decisive U.S. victories in its war against Japan—comes to an end. In the four-day sea and air battle, the outnumbered U.S. Pacific Fleet succeeded in destroying four Japanese aircraft carriers with the loss of only one of its own, the Yorktown, thus reversing the tide against the previously invincible Japanese navy.
