? on Venice, LA

Saw some posts last year of a local who went to Venice aboard some 39’Sea Vee’s (I think) and did well on the yellowfins.
Some friends and I would like to plan a trip down( as there is no reason to go offshore here untill May)mid feb. We will take any info, guides, accomodations, best dates, hoping to avoid sfg’s promblems.

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

Mexican gulf fishing company… Rimmer Covington runs a 39 sea vee… top notch outfit…

if you wait until may to start fishing off charleston, you're missing out on some great fishing. caught wahoo, dolphin and blue marlin during march last year

Jeff Davis is my President

Solo you beat me to it! Yes, Rimmer Covington, his mate is Scott Sullivan. Scott fished with us last week. He really knows is stuff and is a super nice guy.

www.tmgfc.com is their web site.

Anyway they have a 39 sea vee with triple 350s. The boat cruises at 50mph. Huge cockpit. They book alot of charters but I don’t think they post to much on message boards. They are located at the Venice marina. Very easy to get to. They also offer a VERY nice house boat with a huge commercial style kitchen, full time chef, etc. If not shoot me a PM and I will give you the my buddies contact info. He rents his house boat most weeks when he is not there.

They catch the 100 plus pound tuna between now and mid spring. The weather gets better in the summer but the tuna get smaller. Most of the summer catches are in the 40 to 70 pound range. I know they caught a 161 2 weeks ago.

Here is their boat.

Next time we go we will take our boat again but riding with these guys and learning the waters and techniques will shorten the learning curve BIG TIME!!!

nice… I didnt realize they kept their boats out of the water…pretty cool story behind the Mexican Gulf Fishing Company also…

we were canceled 2 or 3 times last year and I want to try again this year.I may be able to get another guy or 2 also.
Thanks,
Jeff

hotwhiskey, howiecrom, rayray and I are going to fish out of venice next week (fri, sat) with capt Darryl, one of Rimmer’s guys. last Jan we got 90lb wahoo, and two 80lb yellowfins one day of fishing. cold and rough but worth it. santa gave a digital video cam, so I’m learning it and will post pics and vids upon return.

I talked to Rimmer for a while today. Says the wahoo bite is starting to pick up. They caught 6 either yesterday or the day before.

Here is all the info I have now.

Rimmer Covington 601-951-3981 He is the captain of the 39 Sea Vee.

There are 3 other boats in the “Mexican Gulf fishing Company” 1 is a 34 or 36 Yellowfin with twin Yamaha F350s not exactly sure but I think the other 2 are cats.

Mexican Gulf Fishing company has a VERY nice house boat. Full commercial style kitchen with full time chef, top shelf liquors, beer and wine. Supper is 5 course and includes what every you want to drink. Continental breakfast before you head out and lunch on the boat. All catch will be cleaned and bagged for you. Nice porch, bedrooms, and a big great room with entertainment system. $175 per person per night

Charter rates are between $1300 and $1400 per day plus fuel if I remember correctly. PLEASE CALL RIMMER TO CONFIRM!! They can take 6 fisherman per trip NOT including captain and mate.

If you fly into New Orleans they have a car company that will pick you up and bring you to Venice (about a 75mile ride)

If you don’t want to stay at their place you can contact my buddy and stay in his house boat. Much smaller but comfortably sleeps 10. Has kitchen bathroom and common area. Got to bring your own food, chef, and drinks. $1500 per week or $300 per night. Call Skeet Williams at 504-419-0217

Rimmer says the first week of February and the second week of March will be VERY good fishing due to the moon. Now that being said a bad day there was better than most of my “good” days here.

Understanding I don’t make a dime if anyone from here goes but after being there I can promise it is worth the trip. We are going to try and head back for the second week of March if not then DEFINATELY this summer.

PM me if you need more info.

Im going back down to fish feb 5-8. Its the best moon of the season for the monsters yft and wahoo fishing… looking for a victum or two to fill spots. pm me if you cant get your trip together and want the spot. it truely is the trip of a life time.

We are hooked up with the help of S4G’s and some other locals who have been there. We are fishing with the mexican gulf fishing co. on the 12&13 of feb. wanted to fish after the fullmoon, just could’t get my crew togeather.Looking forward to fishing with my reg crew and a few young Iraq vets. Rimmer even gave us a 20% discount(saving $260 per day) for their service! Frist class as we are all vets. Staying on a house boat for $200 a night, a deal for six and I’m the chef!
Will a handle of crown & a bushell of mudbugs from Slidell be enough? For just me? Waterboy & Megabite better come ready!

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

Glad it worked out! Take lots of pictures. You soon will be a believer!

Just got in from venice at 4am today, fished with capt Devlin wed, thurs. 30ft glacier bay twin 250’s. Wahoo bite was slow but we made the long run and came home with 3 80# yellowfins and a smattering of smaller ones. Also caught blackfins on the butterfly jigs. Take what you want to eat (the marina restaurant has a seafood potato but don’t eat more than one!), want you want to drink, and plenty of gas money. We ran 200 miles/day to find the tuna. Spearfishermen have killed lots of wahoo in closer, but the troll report is kinda slow.

Hey Bug, Im ready to go. The pressure is on. My boss said don’t bother coming back to work unless I bring him a piece of Tuna. Also got to take Nicole to the mountains in March for being gone on Valentine day.lol.

Been going down to Venice the past 3 years - it can be hit or miss with both the fish and the weather. Hoping all this moon talk is on target. We will be at the lump hopefully on the 5th and 6th. Buddy of mine owns the Sportsman Lodge down there if anybody needs a hand finding a place to stay.

here’s the link: http://www.mbexpeditions.com/venice_lodging.htm

please keep me posted, we fish out of here a lot so we know the hit & miss deal when running out to the ledge. That rare day when your on & you leave the ledge with more fish then you want to clean is whats its all about.

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

greenhead, I will take Nicole to the mountians after we fish if you need me to, thats what capts & mates do for our each other!

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
