Wow, that’s kind of scary.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

Sounds like a charger malfunction

Happened to buddy mine car. Found out a cable was arcing & cause battery to get so hot it blew up.

Dave I’m inclined to think charger also… Decided that when I get it back together I’m gonna put a timer on maintainer circuit to only top off Batts for a few hours each week and not do the 24/7 cycle and cook them to death **** after i verify chargers are good</font id=“red”>******

I had just gotten out of the air force and was doing some freelance repair service. Was on a piece of property that got sold and the previous leasers thought they still had deer hunting rights and were very mad at losing the property. Dang battery exploded on a skidder and I hit the ground thinking it was them shooting at me! Still don’t have a clue why battery exploded.

Very rare now-a-days but extremely common on old batteries. Ask any old timer mechanic and I’ll guarantee they have a story about a battery blowing up. Mostly from jumping off a car and making a spark while doing so.

Gail, no idea why it did what it did. Not a common thing anymore. As for clean up… had a lightning strike blow out a battery bank in a cell site… Was a 48vdc backup bank for a microwave hop… yes clean up is a mess.

My guess maybe a little overcharged and some kind of spark ignited the excess hydrogen gas.

Had a battery explode on my Case ruff terrane fork lift once. It was under my seat and scared the heck out of me! It seams one of my guys had swapped the battery to anothe machine and installed this one temperaly and didn’t bolt it down and when I went over a big rut the battery fell over and shorted out.

Seems like there is a battery jinx on me . I had a Bronco 2 and the batt exploded in it comming home from groc. store for no apparent reason , it was only about 1yr old and blew so bad it twisted the hood up so bad it also had to be replaced alond with several other items in engine compartment. I’m getting gun shy around them !!!
