One day in Las Vegas

I won a trip to Lost Wages, leaving Aug 1 for 4 days. My wife and I have never been. We are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. We have one day that is free to ourselves, the rest has some company stuff linked to it. I’m not rich, but I have a few nickels to rub together for this trip.

What would you recommend to do if you only had a day to see Vegas?

I do intend to gamble while I’m there, but Momma doesn’t gamble. Shot craps marrying me and hasn’t gambled since!

Suggestions?

I would say the rides on the top of the needle should be on the list.

Also, Fremont St is “Old Vegas” and is a must. Binions, 4 Queens, etc and at night it turns into a mini carnival with the overhead light shows and performance artists. If you see some dude spinning a piece of cardboard around on the sidewalk seemingly randomly with 10 or so spray paint cans laying around, stop and watch. It is something to see.

The strip is cool to see the fountains and all the lavish casino’s but wore off for me quick. I will say, since you are on the strip if you find yourself out late, go to Barbary Coast and gamble there for a while and nurse some drinks. There is a late night club called Dre’s on the bottom floor that was apparently THE place to be late night(2AM plus). I saw numerous celebs walk through the casino there to get to the club. Quentin Tarantino, Randy Jackson, Gwen Stefani. Pretty cool little place.

Have fun, it’s really not an expensive trip once you get there with a little self control if you don’t have to have top shelf drinks.

As long as you are gambling drinks are FREE! If gambling get a card and get rated you may get offered another trip for free if you gamble enough or win big.

Go see the Hover Dam.

I have heard that this is not true in a lot of places now due to the bad economy and all. Unless you are betting big hands.

Ahhhhhhhh… [:0]

You said dam.

Shame, shame, shame… Lol.

Turkey… the other white meat.

Hoover sounds like it is making the short list. Security probably won’t let me take my dam rod on the plane, though! : (

That Beatles cirque du soleil looks quite interesting, too.

We may have to shoot for both!

I was there last year and had 1 non business day. I wish I had gone to the dam.
I am not a night owl and with the time change…I went to bed real early for that city. and in the morning, there is not much going on besides blood-shot eyes…

The “Old Vegas” is cool and very near by is Black and Gold Pawn from Pawn Stars on the History Channel. We went and met Chumlee and Old Man. Very cool.

I’m pretty sure this is going to happen!

I like the old Vegas thoughts, too. If I went there more I think it would be more about gambling (which I love), but tough for me to get time to do things so experiencing Vegas would be more important than gambling it.

Vegas is fun for a day or two, old Vegas is cool and hoover dam is impressive. But, I’ve always found the best thing to see is the 727 sitting on the tarmac waiting to bring my country keester back to SC. Air’s a little dry out there and there’s not a red fish in the whole dang state.
