One Fish and a Lost Rod (almost)

Had a hard time finding bait with the tides being up. Found a few glass minnows so we hit a creek off the ICW near Sullivan’s Island a couple hours before dead low. No bites. Decided to take a little ride, found some more bait and went back to fish our spot. Tossed a FM in, set my rod down to grab a bottle of water and wham. Something hit it hard and I got back to it just in time to see it go into the water. Needless to say, I was not happy as it was my best combo. Nothing I could do about it so I tossed in another line and got another bite. Turned out to be a 14" red. A short time later, a couple of guys came out onto the dock we were fishing and asked if we were having any luck. I told him what happened and we all laughed about it. A few minutes later one of the fellows starts tossing a weighted line into the area I lost my rod in. Two casts and Voila!, he brings up my rod. I can’t say how happy I was. We never caught another fish but we did come home with a funny story. It was a beautiful day on the water and I got to spend it with my son so it was a good day.

happy for you!!1 always a sick feeling to see one go over the side as a “I know better than that” echo’s in your mind

Darn lucky DF. Had a similar think happen when I was 12. My buddy’s Dad had a jack crevelle snatch his off the seawall and 10 minutes later I caught it back along with the JC. Too funny.
