B-I-L Bob, Ethan & I took another trip to the jetties today. Rough at first, but not nearly as rough as Friday!
Set up, hung out about 15 minutes and BOOM!, first fish on. We let Ethan go first. He fought it PERFECTLY, bringing in line when he could - holding the tip high and letting the drag scream when he couldn’t. After a strong 10 minute fight, we netted him - 37".
A little while later it was my turn. Same deal, let the drag scream and bring him up when you can. After the spirited fight, we netted a 42" bull. AWESOME!
Then it was Bob’s turn (we took turns on each hit). Bob’s is fighting good but acting a little funnier than the other bulls. Turns out it was a bunch of bull in the form of a shark! Got it to the boat, it thrashed, and cut the line. Never figured out what kind it was. But Bob had to go to the back of the bus!
Next bump, E-dogs turn again! Another drag screaming, man up effort by the lad. A 36" bull for his second catch of the day. Ethan really did do a fine job of playing the fish, wearing him down, and guiding him to the net.
We decided Bob could skip line and go next, but the anchor slipped and we drifted off from our spot. We gathered up and reanchored, but never did get where we liked when the anchor set. We fished it awhile, decided to try a few different spots (including dynamite hole), then decided one more try at the original spot. Had a rod bend, Bob started the fight, then it went slack. The mullet was clearly chomped halfway down, so we had another but he didn’t gulp it down. And that was it.
Ethan had a ball, as we all did. Wish we could have gotten Bob on one last red before he went back to Atlanta, but it wasn’t to be.
The boy hooked up!
…and loving life!!
