One more ethanol ?

If you’ve been running ethanol fuel with the treatment, is it bad to switch to non-ethanol, some people talk about the slurry that will occur if you mix them, any truth to this?

Just run your tank down as low as possible if you are worried, then switch.

I’ve heard not to switch back to non-ethanol if you’ve been using it the startron.

hi c. Where did you hear this? Would like to know for sure. I switched over to non ethanol. Ran tank down real low before doing so. I used the startron before and still have been using it even with the non ethanol as I had a big bottle left. Not sure if I should still be using it or not.

Really makes you wonder what’s true and what people are just thinking will happen. I feel like there’s alot of fear mongering with the ethanol issue.

I run whatever I can find. Perfer non-e gas but sometimes it just isn’t available. Never had a lick of trouble.

you can do the research on the net and get the facts, but from what i have read and seen first hand…
non-E gas uses an oxygenating agent called MTBE ( i dont know or care what it stands for)
10% ethanol fuel uses, you guessed it, ethanol as its oxygenation agent.
ethanol does not play well with others.
when it mixes with MTBE, it can cause a white goo to develop in the fuel system.
I dont know why it happens in some tanks and not others.

i dont think MTBE has been used in fuel for several years now? I could be worng though

MTBE replaced leaded fuel and they now want to replace it with ethanol.

MTBE has not been used in years, they(EPA) found out it is a carcinagen, and it was seeping into ground water, caused more issues than it prevented. Ethanol was used as a replacemnt.

Sorry for late reply, Redsneck. I heard it from ChrisV at a boat seminar and was hoping he’d chime in first… which he did.

There was an article in Sunday’s paper (may 1,2011) about ethanol killing outboards. I continue to buy E10 and add the blue Startron to every tank, double the dose. Knock on wood… no issues.

spareparts
then what are they using in the non-E gas as the oxygenating agent???
the last yamaha class we attended, they used mtbe and etanol comparisons
