Left out Sunday morning with a good crew. Brandt, Casper, Sharkin’ and myself decided to run south and try to find some carolina gold. First up, Casper had a stud hoo on just shy of gaff range when the grumpy bastard had enough fun toying with us and made off with an easy meal. Wired up a few rigs and then started to get cut off with short strikes. We had heard there was some cudas in the area but I’ll be ■■■■ if a cuda ever made a drag sound like that! Anyway, the mystery bites died off and we picked at the dolphin until just about time to go. Just before we pulled the lines, we got another hit and then it was gone. Brandt dumped the spool and started talking trash. “Ha…ha… you missed him,” I said. “You don’t know anything about that.” About that time he buttoned her down and stuck it…zzzzzz…“Got it” he said. A rather large billfish came out of the water in a hurry to go somewhere. We released a very, very solid sailfish to end the day. Good job Brandt on #2, I’ve got some catching up to do.
