Sold my drum set on Craigs List. So now I’ve got $500 to go towards a new to me (used to them) kayak. Hopefully I can get another $300 from selling some other stuff. I may try renting one first just to be sure that it’s something I’d be in to. So, I’ve got two questions.
1). If I rent a kayak would anyone be kind enough to go fishing with me? Thinking the copahee or paradise area since I live in Mt P.
2). How much should I expect to spend to get a good kayak outfitted with the proper fishing gear? Thinking I’ll want a kayak that I can grow into instead of wanting to replace later, a good seat, decent paddle, PFD, couple of flush mount holders, one or two Scotty holders, an anchor trolley, gps/fishfinder, and maybe a live well. The gps and live well may have to wait though.

Go to Time OUt and rent a Ride 135… you’ll love it
$800 should get you really close to a good outfitted kayak… if not just get a good boat and we’ll show ya and help ya rig it up… easier than it seems… I am fishing Copahee tomorrow… launching at about 8am… give me a hoot if ya want to join us…

Tarpon 160os

- sure. I’m planning to hit one or the other on Sat morning
- about 1000-1200 w/ all new stuff no GPS/ fishfinder or live well.
I rig my own because you end up spending a good bit for factory rigged boats. Installing your own flush mounts, anchor trolley, and Scotty will save at least $100, probably a good bit more
Take a look at a Tarpon 140. The seat is great, good stability, good speed, comfortable cockpit layout.
Call Dave at Time Out. He can set you up with everything you need.

AS for NJ suggesting the Ride 135 . you can’t go wrong with that yak either. I think it’s a bit less expensive than the Tarpon 140 and stability is OUTSTANDING.
It’s what I put my clients on

Thanks for the replies guys. I’ve got family coming into town this weekend, so I can’t do it within that time frame. I guess I’ll see if anyone wants to head out closer to when I’ll actually plan on going. I plan on doing as much myself as I can. I like projects and saving money.
