HUH? what is the difference in this fish being brought to the dock or a big breeder blue marlin other than money? or the fact that that there are quite a few more tarpon. I never fish for them or post pictures of my fish, but i will make a point of it this fall to catch one and post a picture of it on the dock!
For what reason would you catch one and bring on the dock?
I love the 60lb line part. They think they did something great by catching this and probably don’t know any better. That’s probably the only one they’ll ever catch too. It’s bad they kept it but it’s too late to stop it now.

I hope all the other rednecks in the upstate that come to the coast for vacation look at the posts from this story and can use better judgement than Bobby Mack did.
Maybe you could use better judgement next time too.

Any Captain that thinks this guy that caught the fish of his life is a bad man for killing it is more than hypocritical. By killing the fish he was sharing a milestone in life with friends and family. Captains are killing fish for $.
P.S.-People who don’t like him because they feel he is a redneck are living in the wrong state.

At least what these two guys did with the tarpon is just ignorance. I had the same sickening reaction several years ago in MHC when the winners of the Big Rock had a magnificent marlin strung up just so people could see it. As you know, those guys are not poor or hungry. Hopefully more release tournaments will continue to grow. Some people will never understand the difference but I have no problem keeping and eating trout, sheeps, or flounder when I am lucky enough to catch them legal size but I would release a tarpon like that.
What if they caught it, and tried to revive it and it died? What would be the proper thing to do - take it home or just let the dead fish float away? Just looking at the video of the story, I can tell they didn’t attempt to revive it, but still…what if?
Interesting question Lewis. My answer to your hypothetical is that at that point it is what it is and you use the dead fish for the best possible use. So you should force yourself to eat it or return it to the water so at least the crabs can use it. That would be better than letting it rot, burying it or taking to the landfill. That brings up the other aspect of landing it alive in the first place. Admittedly most people don’t know how to fight large fish but there is no reason for taking that long to land that fish on 60 lb test and a shark hook (and probably a wire bite tippet).
Anybody else feel much of the “wrong” here lies with the media for glorifying something many of us have caught dozens of, just released? Shows the research, or lack there of, that is put into a story before it is publicly aired.
Yall can argue the rest of the morals behind it. lol.
law should be passed no more jon boats on the coast of Sc
only 60,000.00 dollar bay boats
People in jon boats kill far less fish than people in $60,000.00 bay boats.

bet not.
Why? Because jon boat owners are better fishermen?

would venture to answer yes, as a whole. I think that your more experienced fishermen know that you don't need a $60,000 flats boat with a power pole or 2 to catch fish.
