Only 4 knots you will ever need

There is nothing worse than having a nice fish on and break off at the knot.

Sure line will break once in a while with an oyster shell cut or nick
BUT YOUR KNOTS SHOULD NOT.

Watching TV, on hold on the phone + sitting on the back porch you should have a piece of braded line, leader line, scissors and a couple of swivels +hooks on your lap.

These are easier to tie on the water than most other knots.

(1) Improved clinch
(2) Loop Knot to hooks
(3) Triple Surgeons knot for brad to leader
(4) Palomar to tie braid to terminal tackle

CAPT DAVE

Those are what I use and only what I use. I use the non slip mono loop. It’s just like a clinch knot but you tie it through an overhand loop in the leader

I have been using an Albright to join flouro to braid. It has worked fine but, if there is something better, tell me what it is and why it is better. I am always willing to try something new.

Doug honestly I don’t know that knot. But the reason I like the triple surgeons is its so dang easy to tie

the Albright works good but is a PITA until you practice it a lot… the Triple Surgeons is quicker, easier and just as strong…

If I’m tying mono, I tie an improved clinch knot.

If I’m tying braid, I use a palomar (double looped through the eye).

If I’m tying a circle hook with an angled eyelet, I snell it (I’m convinced this gives a better hookup ratio).

If I’m using a bottom drop-shot type rig, I tie dropper loops on heavy mono.

As far as I can remember, I have never had one of these come loose on me. I always wet the knot before tightening it. I have had line breakage on the occasion but I’ve never reeled in a break that appeared to have happened at a knot.

Ok, I’ll have o try those out. I am definitely a fan of easier.

Also when thinking knots ? If you get hooked hard on the oysters which knot do you want to break first?

You want an100% strength knot on your leader to Brad line and 80% on your hook which is much easier+ faster to tie on

Try a Slim Beauty for braid to fluoro. Super easy and much better than Albright. I’ve tested them.

Hey BKW I am all about the slim beauty knot - rocking in my kayak

Looked it and found this

Capt Dave

THe one downside to triple surgeons is you have to me careful snugging it up, other than that it’s awesome. Albright or better still Alberto knot is still my preferred braid to fluoro connection

^^ This is true. I always test it by pulling hard after tying it. Have had it fail occasionally when testing it. Like Tommy said, as long as it’s snug, its real good.

I use improved cinch and nail knot (leader to braid).

I like the looks of that Alberto knot and since I have been using an Albright, I will have to try that one.
