Hit up the bay opening day and got a full cooler in just under an hour. The shrimp were thick & done be jumpin’ in da bote mon. Size? large to jumbo before the sunset, and as soon as it got dark the size of the shrimp decreased dramatically (booooo!) to a medium mix of sorts.
Saturday day, full cooler but had to work for them, averaging a dozen or so per cast. Much larger shrimp than I saw the night prior (yay!)
Yesterday, headed out around 6 or so and averaged between two to three dozen per cast but they were small to medium, and the smallest shrimp I have ever seen in the bay… Didn’t feel like heading a bunch of 'lil shrimp nor relocating so pulled poles after half a cooler and headed to the hill.
What’s up with the size of the shrimp this year? Sure do hope they get bigger as the season progresses…</font id=“Trebuchet MS”></font id=“size2”></font id=“maroon”>
LSK, did you see anybody away from the island closer to the ocean?
Just wondering if larger shrimp are closer to ocean, was that way
a couple of years ago
thanks for the report…sounds like you did better than anybody else out there all weekend…if they are that hit or miss I sure I hit them next time…9 shrimp per trip isn’t going to cut it for me this year…

I’m with you pen, This is the best I did in 3 years and still didn’t take the time to take a picture of them. I guess its because of the small size, you just don’t think about a bragging photo when they are small.
The size was just pitiful opening day…I don’t see a lot stayed in the net…
And here LSK has 1/2 a freezer after three days. The harbor reports don’t seem much better.

there were alot of nice size shrimp in the creeks several weeks ago. If you recall,we had alot of rain then and the fresh water seems to have pushed most of the bigger shrimp offshore. That is why the shrimp boats have been stacked up offshore. They have been making a killing! The smaller shrimp that are out there now should grow in size and with any luck the later part of the season should be more productive as far as quality goes.
